Sandra Bullock Set To Get Evil For Despicable Me Spin-off

SBminionsEven though Despicable Me 2 is still a few months away from premiering at a local multiplex near you (July 3, 2013), Dreamworks is already hard at work on Minions; a spin-off film featuring the origins of the beloved little yellow henchmen.

One of the aspects the film wants to establish is showing how the Minions have always worked alongside a super villain. While Despicable Me 1 and 2 features Steve Carrel (as Gru) in that role, Minions takes a different turn and will be centered around “America’s Sweetheart”, Sandra Bullock.

Thanks to /Film, it has been revealed that Bullock will portray Scarlett Overkill, an up-and-coming bad guy who, upon meeting the Minions at a bad guy convention in the 1960’s, enlists the titular henchmen to help her become the first female super villain.

Bullock has had quite an extensive career, yet I can’t recall her ever committing to being a full-on evil doer, although since it is a Despicable Me film she’ll most likely have a heart of gold in there somewhere. This seems like part of a refreshing change of pace for the actress, who has an R-rated comedy, The Heat, coming soon along with Alfonso Cuarón’s latest opus, Gravity. I am unbelievably excited about that one as well as excited to see the actress get out of her acting comfort zones.

Minions is slated to premiere December 19th, 2014.

So what do you think, gang? I’m personally excited to see what Bullock brings to the role. Kids will obviously eat it up since it’s going to be directly about and starring the Minions. I am cautious about another Despicable Me film coming out barely a year after the upcoming Part 2. Lets us know what you think in the comments below!
