‘Oliver and Company’ Coming to Blu-ray on August 6th

Disney’s full-length animated feature Oliver & Company is making its way to Blu-ray Disc on August 6, 2013. The film, originally released in 1988, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

oliverandcompanyAccording to the Disney Blu-ray site, the single disc set will include:

  • Two Bonus Shorts
    • Lend A Paw (Academy Award® Winning Animated Short – Best Short Subject(Cartoon), 1941)
    • Puss Café
  • Disney Sing-Along Mode
  • Disney’s Animated Animals
  • The Making of Oliver and Company

Loosely based on Charles Dickens’ classic novel Oliver Twist, the animated musical features the voices of Billy Joel, Joey Lawrence, Cheech Marin, Bette Midler, Robert Loggia, Dom DeLuise and Richard Mulligan.

This really is a fun little film and was one of the features that ushered in Disney’s so-called “second golden age of animation” that most people attribute to the release of The Little Mermaid in 1989. I’m just happy to get a high-quality, Blu-ray copy of the movie (and am thrilled that Disney didn’t make a crappy animated sequel to it). Will you be picking up a copy?
