DreamWorks Animation is in talks to acquire the popular YouTube channel, AwesomenessTV. The move is expected to be announced soon, according to the L.A. Times Entertainment Blog.
AwesomenessTV is a Teen/Young Adult channel that offers original programming, including game shows, sketch comedies, and sports & life style shows, with over 500,000 subscribers on YouTube. The channel is the brainchild of Brian Robbins, who launched the channel last summer and received $3.5 million in funding to grow it shortly thereafter.
DreamWorks Animation is looking to expand its media presence and tackling experimental platforms, such as YouTube, and the recent deal with Netflix to produce an original series based off Turbo, DWA’s tent-pole summer film, is a step in the right direction.
