No studio these days seems to have a more consistent and signature animation style than Studio Ghibli. Check out the beautiful new images we’ve seen online from their upcoming film The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) directed by animation legend Hayao Miyazaki. The film opens exclusively in Japan on July 20, 2013.
Pixar has released the details for the monstrously fun music that will be part of this summer’s Monsters University. From the music that we’ll hear when seeing the film, to the film’s official original soundtrack album, to the music that will be included in the attached short The Blue Umbrella, it sounds like the film will definitely be a feast for the ears along with the eyes and funny bone.
Rovio Entertainment has announced that Jon Vitti will be the writer of the new Angry Birds CG animated comedy feature film currently under development. Vitti has an extensive Hollywood resume in both TV and film, serving as writer on Saturday Night Live, The Critic, The Larry Sanders Show, King of the Hill, Da Ali G Show, The Simpsons and The Office, along with being the screenwriter of The Simpsons Movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
EPIC, the new full-length animated feature by Blue Sky Studios hits theaters on May 24th, and early word from the top critics is fairly positive. Directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots), EPIC focuses on a war being fought in our backyards–literally.
Star Wars animation fans can breathe a sigh of relief–even though we won’t be getting new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars anytime soon (if ever), a new animated series from Lucasfilm has been announced today entitled Star Wars: Rebels. Set in the decades between Episode III and IV, the series “takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledging rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.” The first episode will air as a one-hour “special telecast” on Disney Channel in the fall of 2014 with the regular series set to broadcast worldwide on Disney XD shortly thereafter.
More details are coming forward about Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, a new CG animated feature from Summertime Entertainment. The film is screening privately at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is also an official selection of the 2013 Annecy Festival. It opens in the U.S. on May 2, 2014.
The “Disney Vault” is being very generous with its HD Blu-ray releases this year. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood will be released for the first time on Blu-ray on August 6th joining the previously announced release of Oliver and Company on the same day. Details of the new releases are as follows.
Disney has released a new video of DisneyToon Studios’ upcoming feature Planes entitled “Planes Takes Flight,” which showcases the film’s impressive animation and beautiful soundtrack music. Although the voice cast has been previously announced the clip has no dialogue in it, only new music composed by Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Brother Bear). Check it out and let us know what you think.
