With Disneytoon Studio’s upcoming feature film Planes opening in theaters on August 9, 2013, attendees with paid admission to the 2013 D23 Expo will also get a chance to see the film in 3D on opening day inside the “D23 Arena” theater at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. The screening is scheduled to take place at on August 9th at 3:00 p.m. The press release also teased that there will be “special appearances from select filmmakers and stars” at the D23 Expo screening of the film.

Planes is directed by TV-animation veteran Klay Hall (King of the Hill, The Simpsons), and features the voices of Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Priyanka Chopra, John Cleese, Cedric the Entertainer, Carlos Alazraqui, Roger Craig Smith, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer, Sinbad, Gabriel Iglesias, Brent Musburger, Colin Cowherd, Danny Mann, Oliver Kalkofe, and John Ratzenberger. So, it’s anyone’s guess who will be in attendance at the screening, but it could be a fun way to be introduced to this new film franchise from the Disneytoon Studios folks.

Taking place in the skies “above the world of Cars,” the film tells the story of Dusty Crophopper, a plane who “dreams of competing as a high-flying racer, but he’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps him train to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.”
