The U.S. release schedule has been announced for Studio Ghibli’s latest animated feature film The Wind Rises. The Walt Disney Company and Studio Ghibli made the announcement this past week from the Toronto International Film Festival where the film made its North American debut.
The film will participate in Academy Award qualification screenings in New York and in Los Angeles November 8 – 14, 2013 with its original Japanese soundtrack along with English subtitles. An English language dub of the film will open in limited release on February 21, 2014 and then in wide release on February 28, 2014 in U.S. theaters. As previously announced, the Walt Disney Studios will be the film’s exclusive distributor in the U.S. Disney will release the film under the Touchstone Pictures banner.
Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who recently announced his retirement from making feature films, the film tells the story of the designer of the Japanese Zero fighter planes used in World War II.
