The Hollywood Reporter has shined some light on the now dark Star Wars Animation universe by announcing possible voice actors for the new animated TV series, Star Wars: Rebels that will hit small screens in the fall of 2014.
Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, David Oyelowo, and Vanessa Marshall are some of the names that the THR blog announced yesterday. Lucasfilm has denied any casting has taken place, but the Latino Review has speculated recently that Oyelowo (Lee Daniel’s The Butler) was in talks for a role in the live-action, and yet-unnamed Star Wars Episode VII. It’s possible that The Latino Review was right about the property, but wrong about the project.
Prinze, Jr. is no stranger to voicing sci-fi, as he provided voices for the Mass Effect games, and veteran Steve Blum is best known as the voice of Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, among many, many other high-profile characters. Vanessa Marshall has made a name for herself playing super-heroines Black Canary (Young Justice), Black Widow (Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) and Wonder Woman (Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox). Taylor Gray and David Oyelowo are relative newcomers to animated voice work.
Star Wars: Rebels takes place in the period between Episodes III and IV and is being overseen by Star Wars: The Clone Wars creator Dave Filoni, along with Greg Weisman (Young Justice) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class). Star Wars: Rebels will be exclusive to the Disney XD channel.
As with any rumor, take this with a grain of salt. Once official casting has taken place, Animation Fascination will let you know.
