The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars) recently released their short list of candidates for the Best Animated Short Film category.
The 10 shorts are listed below along with the studio that created each film:
- Feral (Daniel Sousa)
- Get a Horse! (Walt Disney Animation Studios)
- Gloria Victoria (National Film Board of Canada)
- Hollow Land (Dansk Tegnefilm, Les Films de l’Arlequin and the National Film Board of Canada)
- The Missing Scarf (Belly Creative Inc.)
- Mr. Hublot (Zeilt Productions)
- Possessions (Sunrise Inc.)
- Requiem for Romance (Kungfu Romance Productions Inc.)
- Room on the Broom (Magic Light Pictures)
- Subconscious Password (National Film Board of Canada with the participation of Seneca College Animation Arts Centre and Copperheart Entertainment)
A big omission on the list is The Blue Umbrella from Pixar Animation Studios. When was the last time that a Pixar animated short didn’t even get nominated?
The Academy’s Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members now have the task of selecting three to five nominees from the above list. Screenings will be held for Academy members in December in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
Nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 16, 2014. The 86th Academy Awards will be broadcast live on the ABC Television Network in the U.S. on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014.
