Craig McCracken’s Powerpuff Girls turn 15 this year and Cartoon Network is celebrating by premiering an all-new CG rendition of the butt-kicking trio. The popular cartoon, which ran for 78 episodes from 1998 until 2005, won many awards and surpassed corporate expectations for popularity and merchandise sales, is becoming a cult classic and the revamping should definitely suffice to add to the intrigue among tweens and youngsters.
The special, entitled Dance Pantsed, reunites all the original voice actors, including Catherine Cavadini as Blossom, Tara Strong as Bubbles (woo Twilight Sparkle!), E.G. Daily as Buttercup, Roger L. Jackson as Mojo Jojo, Tom Kane as The Professor and Tom Kenny as The Mayor. The director, Dave Smith, who was on the original production team, also worked hard to get Ringo Starr to guest star and offer his talent in a music video for the project.
Smith commented that no one on the creative side wanted to change the characters or concepts at all, but were on board with the idea of tweaking the designs for 3D. Passion Pictures’ Paris studio and French shops Je Suis Bien Content and PlanKtoon added a lot to the creation of Dance Pantsed. The special premieres on Cartoon Network on January 20th at 7:30 p.m. The network will also show 10 classic Powerpuff Girls episodes during a five-hour marathon on Sunday, January 19th, beginning at noon.
