Who’s Your Daddy? ‘Son of Batman’ to Premiere at WonderCon

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proudly releasing the 20th DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Son of Batman, on April 18th at WonderCon in Anaheim. The studio has also released another clip to accompany the trailer from January. The action in the new clip is definitely exciting, as we see Batman fight Killer Croc. Son of Batman is an adaptation of the comic story arc called “Batman and Son” from 2006 in which Batman discovers that he is the father of Talia Al Ghul’s son, Damian.

Batman’s love child has been trained by Grandpa Ra’s Al Ghul from infancy to be a member of the League of Assassins, so Batman has to try and win his son back over to the good side (the side that sleeps with your enemy’s daughter). While the story is juicy and soap opera-y, I’ve never been a fan of this whole subplot that reveals our beloved heroes to be deadbeat baby daddies (eh-hem Superman Returns), but it seems I am in the minority as the plotline got good reviews from the comic gurus at the time when the series was published. Mature, dark themes like this may also be why this film got a PG-13 rating.

The film stars Jason O’Mara (TV’s Terra Nova) as Batman, Stuart Allan (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy) as Damian, Thomas Gibson (TV’s Criminal Minds) as Deathstroke, Morena Baccarin (TV’s Homeland) as Talia, Xander Berkeley (TV’s Nikita) as Langstrom, David McCallum (TV’s NCIS) as Alfred, Giancarlo Esposito (TV’s Breaking Bad) as Ra’s Al Ghul, Sean Maher (TV’s Firefly) as Nightwing, and Bruce Thomas (TV’s Kyle XY) as Gordon.

For anyone lucky enough to be attending WonderCon, there will also be a panel discussion with some of the voice actors after the screening. For everyone else, the Blu-ray comes out May 6th.
