We’ve read reports this week of a new live-action reboot of Scooby-Doo! that is currently in development at Warner Bros. Really, the only actual news about the reboot is that screenwriter Randall Green has been hired. No news about director, producer, cast, etc., has been made available.
The last big screen outing for Scooby-Doo and his pals was 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, which was a sequel to 2002’s feature film Scooby-Doo. Both films were directed by Raja Gosnell and starred Freddie Prinze, Jr., as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Linda Cardellini as Velma, along with a CG-animated Scooby-Doo voiced by Neil Fanning.
Two live-action Scooby-Doo films made exclusively for television (they aired originally on Cartoon Network) and home video have also been produced: 2009’s Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and 2010’s Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster. Both TV movies were directed by Brian Levant and starred Robbie Amell as Fred, Kate Melton as Daphne, Nick Palatas as Shaggy, and and Hayley Kiyoko as Velma. Another CG-animated version of Scooby-Doo was also included, this time voiced by Frank Welker.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about the new reboot to this animated favorite.
