The creative team behind Pixar’s new TV special Toy Story That Time Forgot held a panel presentation and discussion at San Diego Comic-Con recently. Lots of cool info was revealed at the panel, including character designs and bios, as well as the special’s screening date, which will be December 2nd on ABC.
Composer and frequent Pixar collaborator Michael Giacchino moderated the panel which included actress and comedienne Kristen Schaal (the voice of triceratops Trixie), director Steve Purcell, producer Galyn Susman, and head of story Derek Thompson.
Trixie is the main character in the special, which takes place at the home of one of Bonnie’s friends during a post-Christmas playdate. The Toy Story gang encounters a group of armored “Battlesaurus” dinosaur toys straight from the 1980s (think Dino-Riders). Led by Reptillus Maximus (voiced by Brave’s Kevin McKidd), the dino warriors have not figured out yet that they are toys (ala Buzz Lightyear), which causes some serious (and seriously funny) problems for our heroes.
The special is also Toy Story‘s first real foray into a science fiction-type story. Composer Michael Giacchino said that he has composed some Planet of the Apes-esque music to set the mood for the show.
Attendees at the panel were treated to a 10-minute clip from the special. All attendees also received an exclusive poster designed by Mike Mignola.
