At the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation for LAIKA’s upcoming feature The BoxTrolls, LAIKA head Travis Knight told the enthusiastic crowd that he wants to help “hand-drawn animation make a comeback.” In fact, he’d like LAIKA to create an entire 2D hand-drawn animated feature film.
As reported by Slash Film, Knight said that each stop-motion animation film created at LAIKA includes “small bits of hand-drawn animation composites.” Given that, Knight “would like to one day do a whole movie in the medium.” No specific plans or projects were announced, but the cool folks at Slash Film state that “you could tell from his tone that it’s something he’s been considering for a while now.” We can’t wait to learn more!
LAIKA’s latest stop-motion animated film The BoxTrolls opens in U.S. theaters in 3D on September 26th.
