DreamWorks Animation has announced a revised release date for How to Train Your Dragon 3. Originally, the film was scheduled to be released on June 17th, 2016. Its new release date is now June 9th 2017.
There’s a lot of art, science, and speculation that goes on in setting feature film release dates. Dragon 3’s original release date of June 17th, 2016, is also the same announced release date of Pixar Animation Studios’ sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory. While maybe it was a version of playing chicken, or maybe the story or film production just needs more time, we will probably never know. Still, it looks like Finding Dory will be the only major animated feature to have the June 17th, 2016 release date.
The summer of 2017 is going to be a big one for animated motion pictures and Dragon 3 is facing the competition head on. The untitled sequel to Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Movie is scheduled to be released on May 26th, 2017. An untitled film from Pixar Animation Studios is scheduled to be released on June 16th, 2017. And an untitled film from 20th Century Fox (most likely from Blue Sky Studios) is scheduled for July 21st, 2017.
We animation fans have a lot of potentially great animated films to look forward to! Mark your calendars for all of the good stuff to come and stay tuned to Animation Fascination for the latest animation news and information.
