Check out these wonderful new stamps from An Post, the national postal service in the bonny country of Ireland. The four new stamp designs celebrate the Irish animation industry, an industry of which the country is extremely proud. And they have reason to be–millions of people around the world are discovering the great animation being produced by the talented artists on the Emerald Isle.
The four stamps honor the following:
- Roy, a popular Irish animated TV series produced by JAM Media
- Give Up Yer Aul Sins, the Academy Award-nominated short created by Brown Bag Films
- The Secret of Kells, Cartoon Saloon’s gorgeous 2010 feature film
- Nelly & Nora, a new TV show created by Geronimo and currently airing on RTÉ
The new stamps are available in Ireland from main post offices, the Stamp Shop in the General Post Office in Dublin, and online at irishstamps.ie. There’s also an iOS app and an Android app which will “bring the stamps to life” when you scan the stamps while using the app.
Ireland’s animation industry employs over 1,000 artists and creatives and is an important aspect of the burgeoning digital and creative economy in the country.
