We’re incredibly stoked about a newly announced collection of animated shorts from Walt Disney Animation Studios that will be released this summer on Digital HD and Blu-ray. Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection, coming to Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on August 11th and on Blu-ray August 18th, contains 12 of the studios’ acclaimed animated shorts from the last decade and a half. Check out the new trailer.
The Shorts Program was revived in a big way at Disney Animation when Ed Catmull and John Lasseter came on board in 2006 with How to Hook Up Your Home Theater (2007) being one of the first projects. However, other shorts were produced at Disney Feature Animation from time to time for various reasons and projects and, thankfully, some of these pre-Catmull and Lasseter shorts (John Henry from 2000, Lorenzo from 2004, and The Little Matchgirl from 2006) are included in the set, too. We just wish Chris Williams’ trippy, minimalist, and wonderful CG-animated short from 2008 Glago’s Guest made the final cut as well.
Here’s a complete list of, along with images from, all of the shorts included in the set and the names of the filmmakers that appear in each of the shorts’ introductions:
Frozen Fever (2015) – Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee, Peter Del Vecho, Aimee Scribner
Feast (2014) – Academy Award® Winner, Patrick Osborne, Kristina Reed

@DisneyAnimation: A Short Story on Shorts—”Continuing a legacy started in the earliest days of the Studio by Walt Disney, the Shorts Program is thriving today at the Animation Studios that bears his name, producing award-winning shorts that tell new stories and experiment with artistic and technical innovations. This latest chapter in the @DisneyAnimation series gives us an inside look at the process of developing and producing a short. Hosted by actor/comedian T.J. Miller (voice of “Fred,” Big Hero 6), we will meet a few of the artists and filmmakers who make the shorts, and learn why they are such an important part of the fabric of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Round Table Panelists include Lauren MacMullan (Get A Horse!), Mike Gabriel (Lorenzo), Kristina Reed (Feast, Paperman), Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters (the team behind The Ballad of Nessie, Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater).”
Runaway Brain (1995)—Debuting on Disney Movies Anywhere, this great Mickey Mouse short was previously released in 2004 as part of the Walt Disney Treasures Collection: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Vol. 2 DVD set.
