Ron Diamond and his annual Animation Show of Shows series of international animated shorts has a new campaign on Kickstarter that is worth considering for all animation fans.
Started in 1998 by Acme Filmworks founder Ron Diamond, The Animation Show of Shows has selected the best animated short films from around the world and has presented the compilation annually at various venues throughout the world, including most major animation studios, college campuses, and at other events.
The goal of the series is to “inspire their animators and directors…[and other] industry professionals who might not otherwise have an opportunity to see them.” Currently, the 16th edition of The Animation Show of Shows is making the rounds.
Up until now, the series has mostly been underwritten by Diamond himself. Now, Diamond has established a non-profit 501(c)3 organization for the series so that fans and other interested donors can support The Animation Show of Shows with a tax-deductible gift. The new non-profit status also allows Diamond to apply for foundation grants and matching gifts from employee programs.
Many animation studios have given support to The Animation Show of Shows within the last year, including Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Google Advanced Technology and Projects, Illumination Entertainment, Paramount Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, 20th Century Fox Animation, Blue Sky Studios, LAIKA, Sony Pictures Animation, Walt Disney Television Animation, and DisneyToon Studios.
With the support that people provide to Diamond’s Kickstarter campaign, he will be able to “close the funding gap and continue to inspire professional animators and students with the very best of the year’s films.”
