Famed animation director Hayao Miyazaki has come out of retirement to direct again, but the project is not what you’d expect.
Variety reports that Miyazaki is currently directing a new CG-animated short that is being expressly created for the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, Japan.
According to Variety:
The new ten-minute film, starring a hairy caterpillar, will be made in the CG format, a first for the director, and take an estimated three years to complete. Miyazaki did not say whether the film will be shown outside the museum.
The short is Miyazaki’s first formal project since he announced his retirement after the release of the Studio Ghibli’s 2013’s feature film The Wind Rises.
