It’s finally arrived—the official red band (aka NSFW) trailer for Sony’s new R-rated animated feature Sausage Party.
The film is calling itself “the first R-rated CG animated movie” (which is probably true; if nothing else, it will probably set a record for profanity and number of sex jokes used in an CG animated movie). The official synopsis says that it’s “about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store” (which is definitely evident in the trailer).
Sausage Party is directed by Greg Tiernan and Kyle Hunter and is based on a story by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Animation for the film is being done in Canada by Nitrogen Studios located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Voice talent includes Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.
We’ll see if the film is gross–funny, gross–dumb, or just plain gross–gross when Sausage Party arrives in U.S. theaters on August 12th. If you dare, follow Sausage Party on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on the film’s official website.
