At the annual CinemaCon convention this week in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. announced its intention to start up a CG-animated (we assume) “cinematic universe” centered around the animated characters from the Hanna-Barbera studios and run by the Warner Animation Group (WAG) team.
WAG has only one film to its credit, the 2014 mega-hit The LEGO Movie. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are part of the WAG “think tank,” which also includes Nicholas Stoller, Glenn Ficarra, and John Sequa. WAG will also be releasing Storks this fall and has additional non-Hanna-Barbera films on its slate.
The first film in this new Hanna-Barbera line-up is the previously announced Scooby-Doo CG-animated re-boot titled S.C.O.O.B., which is being directed by Tony Cervone and is scheduled to be released in September 2018. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
