Sony Pictures Animation has released a new teaser trailer and a new poster for their upcoming fully-animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Here’s the official plot synopsis from Sony:
In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!
Kelly Asbury, the film’s director, has been keeping a Tumblr blog during the production of the film. Check it out at smurfsproductionblog.tumblr.com.
Voice cast for the film includes Demi Lovato (Smurfette), Rainn Wilson (Gargamel), Joe Manganiello (Hefty Smurf), Jack McBrayer (Clumsy Smurf), Danny Pudi (Brainy Smurf), and Mandy Patinkin (Papa Smurf).
I’m reserving (or at least trying really hard to reserve) judgement for the film until we see more (although the cleaned up Ludacris track in the teaser seems like a bad omen). I’m just glad they’re making a fully animated feature rather than the CG/live-action hybrid approach of their other more recent feature films.
Smurfs: The Lost Village opens in U.S. theaters in 3D on April 7th, 2017. Follow the Smurfs on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on their official website.
