Sony Pictures Animation made an important announcement at a presentation last week — its animated Spider-Man film currently in production is going to feature Miles Morales as the web slinger.
This new animated feature film from Sony Pictures Animation is a separate project and shouldn’t be confused with the live-action Spider-Man: Homecoming film that Sony is co-producing with Marvel Studios that opens in U.S. theaters this July (and features a teenage Peter Parker played again by actor Tom Holland who stole the show in Captain America: Civil War).
For those of you who need a Miles Morales primer and how he replaced Peter Parker as Spider-Man in some of the Spider-Man comics and storylines, check out the Marvel Fandom wiki.
This animated feature is being directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey. Christina Steinberg is producing. Executive producers are Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo who brought us Warner Bros.’ fantastic The LEGO Movie and who are about to direct the new Star Wars Han Solo standalone film for Lucasfilm. Phil Lord is writing the script as well. Avi Arad and Amy Pascal are also executive producers.
Sony Picture Animation’s untitled Spider-Man animated feature will swing into U.S. theaters on December 21st, 2018.
Yeah, I gotta look up who he is.
