FX Networks has greenlit 10 episodes of a new animated series based on Marvel’s Deadpool comics.
The new series will be created by brothers Donald and Stephen Glover. (In fact, we think Donald Glover has the coolest gigs around these days–he’s currently filming the untitled Han Solo film for Lucasfilm playing a young Lando Calrissian and is the voice of adult Simba in the upcoming “live action”/photorealistic remake of The Lion King at Disney, among his many other projects.)

According to Variety, the new animated series is expected to premiere in 2018 on FXX. (FXX is also home to the Glover brothers’ acclaimed live-action series Atlanta.)
The untitled series will be produced by Marvel Television in association with FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios for FXX. The Glover brothers will serve as showrunners, executive producers and writers of the series. Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will be the executive producers.
Jeph Loeb said:
“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth. We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
No voice cast announcements have been made.
For FX Networks, home of the animated series Archer, the animated Deadpool series will be another addition to their already popular adult animation portfolio, which they are planning to grow. In a speech at last year’s Television Critics Association press tour, FX Network’s CEO John Landgraf said that FXX would be moving “really aggressively” into more animated series and short-form animated series. He used Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty as an example of a “really good show” that “demonstrates the creative potential of the adult-oriented toon format.”
