Watch This: New Trailer for Sony’s ‘The Star’

Sony Pictures Animation has released a new trailer for its upcoming Christian-themed animated feature The Star.

Here's the official synopsis:

In Sony Pictures Animation's The Star, a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told – the first Christmas.

The film is directed by Timothy Reckart with executive producers DeVon Franklin, Lisa Henson, and Brian Henson and producer Jennifer Magee-Cook. Screenplay is by Carlos Kotkin. Animation is being produced at Cinesite Studios.

If you made it through the preview, you saw that the voice cast is massive: Steven Yeun (Bo the donkey), Kelly Clarkson (Leah the horse), Aidy Bryant (Ruth the sheep), Keegan-Michael Key (Dave the dove), Kristin Chenoweth (Mouse), Anthony Anderson (Zach the goat), Gabriel Iglesias (Rufus the dog), Ving Rhames (Thaddeus the dog), Delilah Rene (Elizabeth), Kris Kristofferson (Old Donkey), Gina Rodriguez (Mary), Zachary Levi (Joseph), Oprah Winfrey (Deborah), Tyler Perry (Cyrus), Tracy Morgan (Felix), and Christopher Plummer (King Herod) are all in it. Even Mariah Carey shows up to add another Christmas-themed song to the world.

It's difficult to believe that Sony Pictures Animation abandoned the projects they were working on with Genndy Tartakovsky (and whatever else was in their pipeline) to give us both The Emoji Movie and now The Star. Both projects look extremely questionable to this animation fan.
