Is ‘Cars 3’ in Development?

Filed under the “For What It’s Worth” department, we’ve read an online rumor that Pixar Animation Studios might be developing another Cars feature film.

This past summer, Michael Wallis, a Route 66 historian and also the voice of Sheriff in both Cars and Cars 2, recorded a radio interview with WGBZ in Alton, Illinois. In the interview, he said in passing that a Cars 3 was under development that the story and characters would be returning back to Route 66 and also to Route 99 (“66 upside down”) in central California.

Call it fate, call it karma, call it whatever, but The Smurfs 2 took third place in the U.S. box office derby this weekend, earning $17.5 million over the weekend and a total of $27.1 million since its opening on Wednesday, July 31. According to Box Office Mojo, first place in the U.S. box office this weekend went to 2 Guns with $27.1 million, with The Wolverine taking second place at $21.3 million.

Disney CEO Bob Iger, Fields Animation Questions at Annual Shareholders Meeting

The Walt Disney Company held its annual shareholders meeting yesterday in Phoenix, AZ. As is customary at the meeting, after all formal business is conducted, the floor is opened for shareholders to ask questions of Disney’s top management. Some of the questions posed to Disney CEO Bob Iger were about Disney animation.
