Kahlil Gibran’s 1923 book of philosophical poetic essays The Prophet has been turned into a very unique animated feature film and has now been picked up for distribution by GKIDS. Boy and the World (O Menino e o Mundo) took home the Cristal Award for a Feature Film at the 2014 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Directed by Brazilian artist Alê Abreu, the hand-drawn animated film tells the story of a fatherless boy who leaves his village “to discover a world dominated by animal machines and strange beings” and shows an interpretation of the problems of the world through the eyes of a child.
