2014 is off to a great start with the huge success of Warner Bros.’ hilarious and extremely clever hit The LEGO Movie. The animated feature films scheduled to open in the U.S. over the next few months will offer filmgoers a variety of stories, styles, and experiences that all look “awesome” to us. Marc Vibbert and Tom Fonss discuss the spring features in episode 62 of the Animation Fascination podcast. Here’s my take on what to expect with the animated features coming to theaters this spring.
DreamWorks Animation announced today that a brand new Rocky & Bullwinkle short film will be released in 2014, to coincide with the theatrical release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman, the much-anticipated 3D animated film hitting theaters next March.
DreamWorks Animation Studios has released the first official full-length trailer for their much-anticipated animated film, Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
The 3D film, directed by Rob Minkoff (Disney’s The Lion King) and starring the voice talents of Ty Burrell (TV’s Modern Family) as Mr. Peabody and Max Charles (TV’s Neighbors) as his boy, Sherman, among many others, is based on the classic Jay Ward Studios segments that were part of the Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle TV series.
If you haven’t heard, DreamWorks is reviving the classic cartoon Mr. Peabody & Sherman from The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show as a feature-length 3-D movie early next year. The director, Rob Minkoff (The Lion King, Stuart Little) had reportedly wanted to do the film since 2003, but the project didn’t take off until Minkoff joined DreamWorks in 2006.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) will honor the great June Foray, the undisputed First Lady of Voice Acting, with the lifetime Governors Award at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards show on September 15th.
20th Century Fox (which we believe is still the name of the film division of the newly renamed 21st Century Fox, the entertainment group spinoff of News Corp.) has announced release dates for all of its film slate through 2018. 20th Century Fox is home to Fox Animation Studios and Blue Sky Studios and is now the exclusive distributor for films from DreamWorks Animation.
Jay Ward’s timeless creations are coming back to the comic book world thanks to the good folks at IDW Publishing. The comics publisher, along with DreamWorks Classics and Bullwinkle Studios have joined forces to bring Bullwinkle J. Moose, his pal Rocky, The Flying Squirrel, the nefarious no-goodniks Boris Badenov & Natasha Fatale, and the rest of the gang to comic shops nationwide beginning this fall.
Ready for a bad pun? No? Well here it is anyway…
On the “Platt”-er for this episode is our awesome guest, the mile-a-minute voice actress, Tara Platt (Naruto, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien).
Tara joins Matt and Marc to discuss the acting industry, what it’s like to run your own production company, and how life is awesome when you’re married to someone in the same profession as you.
During Thursday’s press conference at CinemaCon, Fox Studios chairman Jim Gianopulos unleashed a Dragon..or a sequel to Dragons. How to Train Your Dragon 2 (not a confirmed title), the sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s 2010 hit will fly into theaters on June 20th, 2014.
