[REVIEW] Reel FX’s ‘The Book of Life’

I can say this much for Reel FX’s second full-length feature animated film: it’s got spunk. Unfortunately, it takes more than that to make a great movie. That’s not to say that The Book of Life is a complete waste of time—the unique style of character and set design along with the heartfelt music and whimsical tone of the film kept me entertained throughout the 95 minutes. As far as repeated viewings and overall longevity of the film in animation history—for me, I can’t see myself ever longing to open this book again.

San Diego Comic-Con Begins Today, But It’ll Take the TARDIS to Get Me In

So, as much as I have always loved comics, cartoons and everything related to the world of being a nerd, generally, I have never attended or paid much attention to the many, varying comic conventions that are so popular these days. Maybe because I haven’t lived in SOCAL that long, but I now realize how incredibly out of the loop I am. In researching what, in relation to animation, this year’s Comic-Con has to offer, I have been bowled over by all the cool exhibits, guests and products available to the 130,000 fans that managed to get tickets to this exclusive event. I went online to try to pick up a ticket for Sunday because I am off work, but apparently I need to locate the Doctor about traveling back in time, since they are all long sold-out.

Seeing Stars: Reel FX’s The Book of Life Cast Announced

20th Century Fox Animation and Reel FX Animation Studios just announced the star-
studded ensemble for their upcoming animated comedy The Book of Life. Channing Tatum, Zoë Saldana, Diego Luna, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Kate del Castillo and Ron Perlman will star with Cheech Marin, Hector Elizondo, Placido Domingo, Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre, Eastbound and Down), Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included), comedian Gabriel Iglesias (Stand-Up Revolution), radio personality Ricardo (“El Mandril”) Sanchez, and Danny Trejo (Machete) rounding out the bunch.
