2014: The Year Without a Pixar Movie

Do you remember where you were when you heard the news that The Good Dinosaur was being pushed to 2015, leaving a gigantic Pixar shaped void in your 2014 calendar? It was an incremental realization for me.

“Okay, it’s being reworked, I thought, that’s fine…but then what movie are they going to fast-track for 2014? (Cue Homer Simpson’s brain explaining reality to him.) No movie from Pixar at all?!? @#&*%!”

Like a spoiled brat, this animation company has got me so expectant for their annual masterpieces, I all but threw myself on the floor in an Angelica Pickles-worthy tantrum (forgive the Rugrats reference, but I’m lamenting the loss of Christine Cavanaugh). So, now that we made it through the year without a Pixar movie and look forward to the prospect of TWO films for 2015, a little reflection and contemplation seems appropriate.

‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ Moves Its Release Date to 2017

DreamWorks Animation has announced a revised release date for How to Train Your Dragon 3. Originally, the film was scheduled to be released on June 17th, 2016. Its new release date is now June 9th 2017.

‘Ernest and Celestine’ Begins U.S. Distribution

After playing the film festival circuit, the highly acclaimed hand-drawn 2D animated feature Ernest & Celestine is beginning its first-run distribution in U.S. theaters this month. The film will debut in Los Angeles on February 28 and in New York City on March 14 with a national expansion to follow in the upcoming weeks.

‘Minions’ Moved to July 2015

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have announced that the release date for Minions, their Despicable Me spinoff film, has been moved from December 19, 2014 to July 10, 2015.

‘The Wind Rises’ Coming to U.S. Theaters in February 2014

The U.S. release schedule has been announced for Studio Ghibli’s latest animated feature film The Wind Rises. The Walt Disney Company and Studio Ghibli made the announcement this past week from the Toronto International Film Festival where the film made its North American debut.

Release Dates Set for Upcoming Disney and Pixar Animated Films Through 2018

The awesome Disney fan site Stitch Kingdom is reporting that Disney has set release dates for its upcoming animated films from Walt Disney Animation Studios and from Pixar Animation Studios through the year 2018. No new titles have been announced.
