Watch This: ‘Box’ Wins Best in Show at SIGGRAPH 2014

The short film Box took home the Best in Show award at the 41st annual Computer Animation Festival at the SIGGRAPH 2014 conference held recently in Vancouver, British Columbia. Directed by Tarik Abdel-Gawad, creative director at the robotics company Bot & Dolly, Box “explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a first-ever live synchronized performance using 3D projection mapping, robots, and actors.”

SIGGRAPH 2013 is well underway in Anaheim, CA, and Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented a keynote panel, which included many of feature animations best and brightest.

Pete Docter Releases More Details on Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’

Pete Docter’s (Monsters Inc, Up) next film Inside Out is slated for 2015 as one of Pixar’s two releases (the other being Andrew Stanton’s Finding Dory). Docter has said that his next film is “one of the most challenging stories I’ve ever had to put together.”
