I am not a fan of The Smurfs, particularly the hybrid live-action/CG films that Sony Pictures Animation released in 2011 and 2013. When the story came out that Sony was going to make yet another Smurfs film, it sounded like less than thrilling news to me.
But maybe there’s hope for this new film after all. It’s not going to be a live-action/CG hybrid like its predecessors from Sony, but rather a full length CG animated feature.
Disney’s Wreck-It Ralphwas the big winner at last night’s 40th Annual Annie Awards, bringing home a total of four awards, including Best Writing, Best Directing and Best Animated Feature.
ParaNorman, one of last year’s most beloved films here at Animation Fascination, came away with two awards, both revolving around character design and both, in our opinion, rightfully deserved. We were also happy to see Tron: Uprisingwin a couple of awards, although they are slightly bittersweet what with the show’s recent cancellation.
