Congratulations are in order for DreamWorks Animation for bringing home the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film for their hit film How to Train Your Dragon 2. The Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on January 11, 2015.
Do you remember where you were when you heard the news that The Good Dinosaur was being pushed to 2015, leaving a gigantic Pixar shaped void in your 2014 calendar? It was an incremental realization for me.
“Okay, it’s being reworked, I thought, that’s fine…but then what movie are they going to fast-track for 2014? (Cue Homer Simpson’s brain explaining reality to him.) No movie from Pixar at all?!? @#&*%!”
Like a spoiled brat, this animation company has got me so expectant for their annual masterpieces, I all but threw myself on the floor in an Angelica Pickles-worthy tantrum (forgive the Rugrats reference, but I’m lamenting the loss of Christine Cavanaugh). So, now that we made it through the year without a Pixar movie and look forward to the prospect of TWO films for 2015, a little reflection and contemplation seems appropriate.
It’s another edition of AF News with Stanford Clark and Marc Vibbert! On today’s show they discuss and review a whole slew of recent animated TV Blu-ray releases, Stanford’s upcoming trip to New York Comic Con, as well as Laika’s The Boxtrolls and Disney’s Star Wars Rebels.
Also Discussed: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition, special episodes of Phineas and Ferb, and new trailers for Pixar’s Inside Out, Studio Ghibli’s The Tale of The Princess Kaguya & Disney’s Big Hero 6. Plus, a whole bunch more…
LAIKA‘s new animated feature The Boxtrolls opens this weekend on September 26th. The official soundtrack to the film became available on CD and digital download yesterday on September 23rd and it’s rather cool.
LAIKA and Focus Features are sponsoring a new “Cardboard Challenge” contest in conjunction with upcoming opening of The Boxtrolls. They want kids of all ages around the world to create something creative out of cardboard and then post a picture of their creation on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #TheBoxtrollsCC.
At the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation for LAIKA’s upcoming feature The BoxTrolls, LAIKA head Travis Knight told the enthusiastic crowd that he wants to help “hand-drawn animation make a comeback.” In fact, he’d like LAIKA to create an entire 2D hand-drawn animated feature film.
