Walt Disney Records has begun rolling out their newly created line of collectible CDs entitled Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection. Starting first with Disney’s The Lion King, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, 15 new CD sets of classic Disney film and theme park music have been announced to be released through 2015 with hopefully more to be announced in the future.
Over the weekend, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen took the number 10 spot in the list of the highest grossing films of all time. Its current take is standing at $1.072 billion (earning $398.4 million in the U.S. and $674 million in international markets so far). Frozen has now overtaken both Disney Animation’s The Lion King ($987.5 million) and Pixar Animation Studio’s Toy Story 3 ($1.063 billion worldwide) in total worldwide box office earnings, making it Disney’s most successful animated film ever in its first run and also giving it the bragging rights as being in the top 10 of the all-time worldwide box office.
It’s a Walt Disney Animation Top Ten episode, so who better to join Marc for this best of list other than Tom Fonss himself. Are any of your favorite films on either of their lists? Maybe… probably. But you can’t know for sure unless you listen.
Also discussed: Doctor Who, Rocky and Bullwinkle returning to the big screen, the 19 films that may or may not get nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar, and trailers for The Lego Movie, Maleficent, and Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Earlier this year, Disney chief executive Bog Iger said that the company has no plans to do another hand-drawn, feature-length film. This news is disheartening to many of us animation fanatics, as anyone perusing the animation blogosphere this year can attest to. The sentiments are predictable and apt: Disney’s legacy began with hand-drawn animation, it’s wrong to blame an art form for bad stories, and it’s depressing to imagine Disney as only doing CG films.
Animator, writer and director Burny Mattinson celebrated his 60th year of working at The Walt Disney Company this week. The commemoration and celebration were held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Roy E. Disney Animation Building on The Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, CA.
In this episode Marc and Matt become renaissance men with guest host Josh Spiegel (from “Mousterpiece Cinema“). From The Little Mermaid up to Tarzan, we discuss Disney’s most successful era that began in the late 80s and ended around the year 2000.
Also discussed: the new release Escape from Planet Earth, some new clips from Monsters University, as well as news from Dreamworks and Illumination Entertainment.
