Do you remember where you were when you heard the news that The Good Dinosaur was being pushed to 2015, leaving a gigantic Pixar shaped void in your 2014 calendar? It was an incremental realization for me.
“Okay, it’s being reworked, I thought, that’s fine…but then what movie are they going to fast-track for 2014? (Cue Homer Simpson’s brain explaining reality to him.) No movie from Pixar at all?!? @#&*%!”
Like a spoiled brat, this animation company has got me so expectant for their annual masterpieces, I all but threw myself on the floor in an Angelica Pickles-worthy tantrum (forgive the Rugrats reference, but I’m lamenting the loss of Christine Cavanaugh). So, now that we made it through the year without a Pixar movie and look forward to the prospect of TWO films for 2015, a little reflection and contemplation seems appropriate.
So there I was, listening to The Walt Disney Company’s Q4 and fiscal year 2014 earnings conference call when amid all of the talk about numbers and “franchises” (which, I believe, is the favorite word among the senior business leaders at Disney), comes a surprise announcement from Disney CEO Bob Iger that Toy Story 4 is on its way from Pixar Animation Studios on June 16th, 2017 and that it will be directed by none other than John Lasseter himself. I immediately sent a text to our fearless editor-in-chief Marc Vibbert and then tried to sort it all out.
The creative team behind Pixar’s new TV special Toy Story That Time Forgot held a panel presentation and discussion at San Diego Comic-Con recently. Lots of cool info was revealed at the panel, including character designs and bios, as well as the special’s screening date, which will be December 2nd on ABC.
Pixar fans at San Diego Comic-Con this week are in for a treat: Pixar and ABC are giving away posters for the upcoming TV special Toy Story That Time Forgot at their Comic-Con panel as well at a special autograph session. The poster was designed by comic artist/ legend Mike Mignola and it’s just all sorts of cool.
The forecast for this episode is cloudy with a chance of awesome!
Stanford and Marc are joined by Jessica Wersky to discuss her studio visit to Sony Pictures Animation for the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Blu-ray press event. Jessica’s interviews with the co-director of the film Cody Cameron, and the director of the Blu-ray animated shorts David Feiss are included as well
Also Discussed: Stanford’s interview with actor Will Friedle (Bumblebee, Transformers: Prime), How to Train Your Dragon 2 teaser posters, Pixar’s Toy Story Christmas special, and Illumination Entertainment’s upcoming slate of films.
Pixar fans rejoice! It looks like the 2014 animation slate will not be Pixar-free after all. Pixar Animation Studios and ABC have released details on anotherToy Story holiday TV special currently in production that will be broadcast in late 2014. This time, Pixar is putting the beloved Toy Story characters in a Christmas story entitled Toy Story That Time Forgot.
