Illumination Entertainment Announces Release Dates for 3 New Films

Illumination-Entertainment-545-post

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures announced this week release dates for three films in their pipeline.

Coming as a surprise to no one, Despicable Me 3 is in development and will be released on June 30, 2017

Actually coming as a surprise are two new films from Illumination Entertainment: an original untitled animated feature that will be written and directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Son of Rambow) to be released on December 21, 2016 and a brand new animated feature of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas to be released on November 17, 2017.

Illumination’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be directed by animator Peter Candeland (Balto, Aladdin TV Series, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Gorillaz: Phase One – Celebrity Take Down) based on an adapted script Michael LeSieur. I am particularly excited for this project. I adore the book along with the 1966 Chuck Jones’ animated TV special and was rather disappointed by the 2000 live action version featuring Jim Carrey as the Grinch. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
