You Only Live Twice, ‘Futurama’ Cancelled

‘Bad news everyone’ Futurama has been cancelled… again. The Annie Award, Emmy Award winning, animated sitcom is to face the chop from their facilitating channel Comedy Central. This is the second time the show has met its maker after Fox cancelled the show back in 2003. The team bounced back, with four straight-to-DVD movies, which Comedy Central aired as a 5th season. Due to its popularity, Comedy Central revived the series and since then we have had 2 more series. This includes the 7th series, due to air its last 13 episodes in June of this year.

Unfortunately though it’s time at Comedy Central is over and although the show’s creator, Matt Groening still seems enthusiastic about taking the show somewhere else he was quoted as saying:

“I’m very proud of the upcoming season. If this is indeed the end of Futurama, it’s a fantastic finish to a good, long run.”

I’ll be sad to see the people who brought us Robot Santa, Suicide Booths and Slurm leave our screens. The worst part of all is, where will all our Sci-Fi, TV heroes go to do hilarious cameos now? There isn’t much out there in the way of animated Sci-Fi sitcoms and Futurama certainly brought a great level of humor and some warm, interesting characters to our living rooms. I hope that the team comes back with a feature-length film that breathes fresh air into the characters as they did with The Simpsons. I for one would pay the price of admission.
