Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the stop-motion animated TV Christmas special, is still a ratings winner. The special, which aired this year on CBS on November 26, 2013, drew a higher rating with the 18-49 demographic than the finale of Dancing with the Stars on ABC.
Created by Rankin/Bass Productions, the special first aired in 1964, making it the longest running Christmas TV special in history. Available on Blu-ray and DVD, the classic Christmas special and its sequels are also staples on ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas programming block during the month of December.
