Pixar Animation Studios has a brand new Cars short coming soon to the just released Disney Movies Anywhere app. The short will be a new episode in the ongoing Tales from Radiator Springs series. Called The Radiator Springs 500 1/2, the short tells the story of how a bunch of Baja racers come to Radiator Springs and challenge Lightning McQueen to a race.
The short is directed by Rob Gibbs and Scott Morse. It features the voice talent from the original Cars films, including the voice of Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen.
According to Entertainment Weekly:
“Gibbs, Morse, and the Pixar team had a lot of fun with the new characters, who were inspired by the racers who compete in Mexico’s famous Baja 1000 race. ‘They have all these different classes for that race, so we tried to pick the most interesting cars,’ says Gibbs. ‘So there’s four of them: a Baja Bug, a Class-1 dune buggy, a Meyers Manx dune buggy, and a trophy truck, the big money ones, you know, with huge suspension and huge wheels.'”
Also according to EW, another Tales from Radiator Springs short is in the works for 2015.
